BREAKING: Ongoing Clashes and International Response Amid Cambodia-Thailand Border Tensions

Phnom Penh, July 25, 2025 — As of 10:00 a.m., the border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand continues into its second day, with ongoing exchanges of fire between armed forces on both sides. Cambodian troops remain in control of all strategic positions and continue to stand firm in defending national sovereignty.

The situation has prompted urgent international attention. At Cambodia’s request, the United Nations Security Council has scheduled an emergency meeting for Friday to discuss the escalating conflict and formulate appropriate responses. The Cambodian Senate has also called on the global community, including the United Nations, ASEAN, and peace-loving nations, to take immediate and decisive action against Thailand’s serious violations of Cambodia’s sovereignty.

Casualties have been reported as a result of the conflict. Mr. Met Measpheakdey, spokesman for Oddar Meanchey province, confirmed that one innocent Cambodian civilian has been killed, and five others have been injured due to Thai military aggression.

Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia, reaffirmed that Cambodian forces continue to secure and control key sites, including the Preah Vihear Temple and Wat Keo Sikha Kiriswar.

In a press conference on the morning of July 25, 2025, Lieutenant General Socheata strongly rejected recent reports by Thai media outlets, including The Nation Thailand, claiming that Thai troops had taken over the Preah Vihear Temple and Wat Keo Sikha Kiriswar. “These reports are completely false and unprofessional,” she declared. “Our forces remain in control of these sites, which continue to be under Cambodian authority.”

The Ministry of National Defense spokesperson further condemned The Nation Thailand for publishing what she characterized as malicious and unfounded news, noting that the publication previously spread misinformation, including false claims that Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen had left Cambodia for China on July 24, 2025. “Such false reporting aims to create unnecessary tension and spread misinformation,” she emphasized.

Cambodia reaffirms its unwavering commitment to defending its sovereignty through all necessary measures. The government continues to call on all parties to exercise restraint, seek peaceful resolutions through diplomatic channels, and uphold international laws protecting territorial integrity.
